Disability Benefits Reconsideration
with Prairie State Legal Services
The Disability Benefits Reconsideration Project is designed to assist claimants in appealing the Social Security Administration’s initial denial of an application.
It is not easy for a person to apply for SSI or SSDI and the denial rate is over 90%. Without legal assistance, most of these denials are upheld upon appeal. We are hoping that with this project, we can help these statistic improve.
All the work involved in a case can be done from the attorney's home or office. The time commitment for a case is about 20-25 hours over a 3-6 month period. Volunteers interview the client, review the client’s current Social Security record, gather and submit missing medical evidence, and submit a written argument to the claims adjudicator assigned to the case. Supervision is excellent and we have several PBN mentors.
