Legislative Tracking
Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH)
This is a project developed for PBN and another example of PBN adding efficiencies to an agency. CCH initiated the idea of PBN tracking legislation to notify the agency when there was activity relating to homelessness. This allows the agency to have more time to research bills, plan a strategy and testimony, and better educate legislators.
After the first year, CCH reported that the tracking had a tangible impact on its work and on the families and individuals with whom they work. Accomplishments include early notification of:
-
The Homeless Bill of Rights in Illinois that was passed on August 22, 2013 and
-
Two bills that, although well-intentioned, would have been harmful to children and youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
